“Twilight” star Robert Pattinson has admitted that he initially auditioned for the role of Edward Cullen because he wanted to meet — and get to know — Kristen Stewart.

“I had read the script and I barely knew that they were books, too. The only reason I went to the audition was to see Kristen because I had a huge crush on her,” Pattinson tells a British website.

Well, mission definitely accomplished.

Now these two are the biggest unofficial couple in the universe. How well he got to know Kristen remains a source of tremendous speculation. But the top male movie star (beating Johnny Depp!) insists that he’s still unattached and on the market.

“Of course I had a crush on her, but we are just very good friends. I am young, free and single. I like people being forward. Gosh, I don’t know. I like strong people.”

Do you realize the implications of this news? As of Jan. 2, 2010, both Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner (sans Taylor Swift, who had NO chemistry with him) are available! It’s gonna be a great year!
