When it comes to Twilight, it isn’t the otherworldly characters readers and viewers need fear but the fans – as Emma Roberts has found out.

The actress and niece of Julia Roberts deleted her Twitter page after receiving a barrage of abuse from the films’ followers.

Appearing on The Tonight Show on Tuesday with Twilight star Robert Pattinson, host Jay Leno asked the 19-year-old if she was on Team Edward Cullen or Team Jacob Black, referring to the two battling characters in the vampire saga.

Despite sitting next to the actor who plays the former, Roberts admitted she preferred the character of the latter, played by Taylor Lautner.Looking apologetically at Pattinson, she said: ‘I’m sorry but I’m going to have to say Team Jacob. Your hair looks wonderful in person, but I have to stick with Team Jacob, I’m sorry.’

The 24-year-old quickly replied jokingly, ‘Well, you just revealed yourself to have absolutely no taste.’

Roberts tweeted directly after the show: ‘Rob Pattinson is so nice! I was slightly disappointed his skin wasn’t glittering and the song “Wild Thing” didn’t start when he shook my hand.’

But to Twilight fans, the damage was already done.

One of the milder tweets aimed at Roberts was, ‘Team Jacob? Ewwwwwwwww!!!!!’

Another fan wrote: ‘If you came on Leno and had a beef with then you deserve what you are getting but if not I feel bad for you.’

Roberts deleted her Twitter page two days after her appearance on the chat show.
